CONTAINER HOMES IN THE CITY

The lack of new city housing pushes designers to create pioneering alternatives, like transformed shipping containers.

As London’s housing crisis gets worse, a ground-breaking solution has been developed in the structure of converted shipping containers by the YMCA,

No longer limited to just being cargo units, the YMCA have transformed the containers into luxury pads, accessible to rent out for only £75 per week.

Containing air conditioning and suite bathrooms, and even flat screen televisions, these home containers provide comfy living for reasonable price tag. This innovative idea creates a sufficient solution for young people incapable to pay for the cost of private renting in the City, while trying to save enough money for a house deposit.

The “mYPads” are presently situated in London’s Waltham Forest, with the local council having established planning permission for a succeeding site in the area.

These containers are also stackable; it may not be too long until we see soaring blocks of containers all across London!
